It is hard to be overweight, I mean seriously overweight. It is hard to buy nice clothes, it is hard to navigate carparks and shopping centres and theatres and public transport. It is hard on your self image and confidence. It is hard on your heart, your joints and your health. And it is damn hard to change the patterns formed during decades of unhealthy living. This is where I find myself; on a journey to a lighter plane of being.
I am female, 36, live in Canberra, Australia, have a wonderful partner, a toddler and am seriously overweight. I have decided to make some changes to my life, to get healthy for my future and my family.
I started out on the 3rd of January 2011 weighing 140.9kg (310lbs). I have two main goals for 2011: be committed to a healthy lifestyle for 40 weeks and in that time aim for a 36kg loss and then aim for a weight of 100kg by Christmas, an additional 5 kg. These goals give me a focus: 40 weeks and 40 by Christmas. Challenging? Yes :) Possible? Yes :) Ideally, I would like to get to 70kg but I have no time frame for that. I will reassess as my 40 weeks comes to a close and in the lead up to 2012.
This is a place where I can record my stats, my thoughts, my success, my set backs, my struggles. This will be open and honest, except for my name. I have chosen a user name that represents the journey I am on.
Shaushka was a Hittite goddess of fertility, war and healing. I think it is a good username. Healing is an important part of losing a lot of weight; healing the mental scars, healing from bad lifestyle. And I need the strength, courage, determination of a warrior. The fertility part? well, I would like to have another child and losing weight will improve my fertility, improve pregnancy health, improve recovery.
Interested in reading more? Have a look through. No sense repeating here what is in the blog. Welcome. If you want to comment that would be great. I welcome your support, ideas, feedback and would like to meet people who might have similar struggles, or have overcome similar struggles, so that we can support each other. But this is my blog and my journey. I expect that respect be shown to me and anyone else that comments here.
I have a list of scale related goals. Only 2 have timeframes - those related to the '40 weeks and 40 by Christmas' focus. The rest will happen when they happen. But as I have a big picture which forms the backdrop of my day to day, they will happen. - lose 10% of starting weight: 14.1 kg (31 lbs) - 20 kg loss (44 lbs) - 50 lb loss (22.7 kg) - 25 kg loss (55 lbs) - lose 20% of starting weight: 28.2 kg (62 lbs) - 29.3 kg loss (64.5 lbs): change in BMI category - 30kg loss (66 lbs) - 40 weeks! 10 October 2011 - 36 kg loss (79.2 lbs) - 25 December weigh in at 100kg (220lbs): 40.9kg loss (90lbs)
